Intumescent steel structure fireproof coating
Product introduction
Intumescent steel structure fireproof coating is a single-component water-based intumescent fireproof paint with high fire resistance limits, short curing periods, and safe usage. When applied to the surface of steel structures, it expands and foams upon exposure to fire, forming a dense and uniform fireproof insulation protective layer with excellent fireproof and insulating effects.
Construction techniques
Steel structure substrate surface treatment
1.1 Before construction, clean the substrate surface of oil stains and floating dust. If there are water marks or condensation on the substrate surface, wipe them dry with cotton cloth or a towel.
1.2 For areas where the rust-proof layer has been damaged, repair according to the anti-corrosion coating construction process. Wait until the rust-proof layer is completely dry before proceeding with construction.
2. Construction environment
During the application and curing period of the intumescent steel structure fireproof coating, the environmental temperature should not be lower than 5°C. It is not advisable to construct when wind speed exceeds 5 m/s, during rainy days, or if the component surface has condensation.
3. Storage requirements
Materials must be stored to prevent water, moisture, and direct sunlight. The storage environment temperature should be between (5-35)°C, and the shelf life of the fireproof coating is one year.
4. Construction tools
Stirrer, air compressor, spray gun, trowel, putty knife, etc.
5. Construction process
5.1 Mixing: This product is a single-component paint that does not require the addition of other components. Before construction, mix it evenly with a stirrer to ensure uniformity throughout the paint. Generally, no diluent is needed; however, if the viscosity is too high, add less than 5% water for dilution and mix thoroughly.
5.2 Application method: The recommended application methods are brushing, rolling, or spraying. During application, apply 200-300 g/m² or 100-300 μm per coat. After the previous coat is touch-dry, proceed with the next coat, with at least a 12-24 hour interval between coats. From the second coat onwards, you can increase the thickness of each coat, but avoid sagging, until the required thickness for fire resistance is achieved. Adjust the interval time based on different environmental temperatures and humidity.
5.3 Meshing: When the required fire-resistant coating thickness is 3.0 mm or more, it is recommended to install fiberglass mesh in the middle of the coating thickness before applying subsequent fireproof coatings.
5.4 Curing: The curing time after painting should exceed 40 days.
5.5 Topcoat: After curing the fireproof coating, apply an acrylic polyurethane topcoat manually, using 30-50 g/m², resulting in a dry film thickness of 15-20 μm.
5.6 Topcoat curing: The curing time for the topcoat should exceed 7 days.
6. Construction precautions
6.1 Thoroughly mix the paint before application.
6.2 Apply 200-300 g/m² or 100-300 μm per coat, with at least a 12-24 hour interval between coats.
6.3 Ensure that every surface of the steel structure reaches the specified thickness.
6.4 If the product is not used up in one go, seal it properly to avoid skinning on the surface, which may affect reuse.
7. Special considerations for winter construction:
7.1 The storage temperature of the intumescent fireproof paint must be above 5°C, otherwise, it will freeze and become unusable. If the product freezes and then thaws, its performance will significantly decrease.
7.2 During winter construction, try to avoid rain and snow weather during the application and curing stages of the fireproof paint, ensuring the environmental temperature does not fall below 5°C.
7.3 In winter construction, the surface temperature of the steel structure is almost the same as the surrounding environment's temperature and humidity. Lower temperatures may cause condensation or frost, so avoid early morning or late evening work. If possible, consider starting with the roof to cover the building, minimizing outdoor work.
7.4 In winter, due to low temperatures, the drying speed of the fireproof paint is slower, so extend the intervals between applications and the curing time.
7.5 Avoid spraying when wind speed exceeds 5 m/s, as strong winds can reduce the strength of the paint film.
